Money Foundations for Student Life
Free financial education built specifically for university and college life, whether you've moved away or you're commuting in every day: a first loan, a first pay cheque, before the habits that follow you for decades have set in.
Why this, and why now
The government's Curriculum and Assessment Review has confirmed that financial education will become a statutory part of the primary and secondary curriculum in England from 2028, genuine progress, and a while off yet. It also does not reach university or college life at all. Parliament has itself heard evidence that financial capability support is concentrated in schools and workplaces, with comparatively little structured support for young people aged 16 to 24 as they move into financial independence, one of the most financially vulnerable periods in a young person's life. Money Foundations for Student Life is built to sit in that specific gap.
What's being built
Four areas, written for the real shape of student life rather than adapted from general adult content. Each one is being built with the same care as the rest of the site: checked against primary sources, free, and never a sales pitch.
Budgeting on a Student Income
Loan instalments, irregular income, and making a lump sum last a full term rather than a fortnight.
Credit, Borrowing and Buy Now Pay Later
Student cards, overdrafts, and buy-now-pay-later, what each one actually costs and when they quietly stop helping.
Shared Living, Bills and Commuting Costs
Splitting bills fairly and protecting a deposit if you've moved away, or budgeting realistically for travel and season tickets if you're commuting in.
Recognising Scams Targeting Students
The specific approaches aimed at students, rental scams, fake job offers, and pressure to move money fast.
Already free and open today
While Money Foundations for Student Life is being built, the same Foundations everyone else on the site uses is already live and free, right now. Eight lessons, no account needed, no cost, ever: an emergency fund, budgeting basics, debt, ISAs, and workplace pensions.
Start the Foundations →For universities, colleges and student support teams
- Every student gets full access, free, funded by your institution rather than by them, no cost, no card details, no login required on their side.
- General financial education only, nothing here is personalised advice, and nothing on the site sells or recommends a specific financial product.
- Built by a practitioner with a 20-year background in carer support, equality and diversity, and systemic family therapy roles within the NHS. More on the About page.
- Every fact-bearing lesson is checked against primary sources (FCA, MoneyHelper, GOV.UK) and corrected as rules change, not written once and left to go stale.
- The individual Foundations lessons stay free to the public permanently, whether or not your institution licenses the full student pathway.
